Car Parks + Circulation Plan
If you come by car, you'll probably find your route to Ghent yourself with a GPS or checking it on Google Maps on beforehand. However, getting inside Ghent is a bit more tricky, as the city council implemented a complex circulation plan to decrease the amount of cars in the city centre. As you won't need your car during the seminar, the easiest and cheapest option is to put your car at a free Park+Ride zone just outside the city. You can take public transport from there to the city centre.
The easiest and biggest ones to reach from the highways are:
- P+R The Loop/Expo, which is the starting point (Flanders Expo) of Tram 1.
- P+R Gentbrugge, with easy access to Tram 2 (after which you can change to Tram 4 at tram stop Zuid)
Check the City Map at our webpage 'The City of Ghent' for more information about the P+R's and the Tram Stops.
If you want to park close to the city centre and the hostel (which is in the car-free zone) anyway, you can park underground in P8 (Sint-Michiels) or P7 (Ramen), for €14 per day at least. And you have to consider the circulation plan, because if you cross from one zone to another over red markings on the road or if you drive in the car-free zone you'll get a fine. I'm not sure if the GPS systems are updated to follow these new mobility rules.
