By boat
Just in case you own a boat, we have to inform you that it's also possible to reach Ghent by water. There are two canals leading to Ghent (Ghent-Ostend and Ghent-Terneuzen) and two rivers (Lys and Scheldt). The Scheldt river flows further to Antwerp, where it opens up to the wide Westerschelde and after that the North Sea.
Ghent is located at the confluence of those two rivers Lys and Scheldt. They shaped the medieval history of the city as a main Flemish trading hub and that's also why watercourses are still so frequent and omnipresent in the city.
We're not sure about how or where to 'park' your boat, though. You'll probably know more about that if you actually own a boat.
