The Hostel
We will stay in Hostel Uppelink, located in a building which has history written all over it. It is said to be the third oldest building in Ghent, as well as being the former residence of the count of Egmont. Decapitated alongside his friend Prince William of Orange, the count of Egmont has been immortalised by the famous Egmont Overture of Ludwig van Beethoven. By staying here you will also follow the footsteps of Desiderius Erasmus and King Philip II (the only son of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V), who both stayed at this location some centuries ago. The location on the Korenlei right next to the Sint-Michielsbrug is perfect and the view from the rooms and the lounge is just astonishing.
Facilities
However, such an illustrious past comes with certain consequences. The building is part of cultural heritage; therefore it is not allowed to install an elevator. If there are any questions about the facilities for people with a physical disability, please tell us before you come. During your stay, the staff and the ISHA team are present to offer the required assistance.
The stairs are squeaky, so please be quiet when you enter the hostel at night. In general, just behave whenever you are in the hostel, don't smoke inside the building and don't use alcoholic drinks inside the rooms. Any violation to the general hostel rules will end up in a big fine (historical heritage, you know, it's very vulnerable and precious) and expulsion from our ISHA Seminar.
The organisation team will do the room distribution, keeping in mind the requirements of the participants. There's a sanitary block with toilets on every floor. There's only one common bathroom though, on the second floor: the spacious shower cabins are obviously separated so you can take a private shower, but the room is common. Please let us know if you have problems with that.
Wi-Fi is included
Bedlinen are included
Towels can be rented at the reception for €2.
